The Singapore Patents Act will be amended with effect from 11 January 2014 to adopt a "positive grant system" in which applications that fulfill the validity requirements for patentability can proceed to grant. This is in contrast to the present Patents Act which enables patents to be granted based on a "final" examination report, which will also include examination reports in which the validity requirements for patentability are negative.
The new positive grant system will apply to patent applications that are lodged in Singapore on or after 11 January 2014.
